Rafia Javaid
Personal Experience
Rafia Javaid is currently an Articling Student at Rosen & Associates.
Rafia graduated from the Dual J.D. program at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. During her time with us as a Summer Law Student in 2022, she assisted clients on various matters including audits, unfiled returns, objections, appeals, tax debt, taxpayer relief, voluntary disclosures and corporate reorganizations.
During law School, Rafia was an active member of her law school community, she served as a Judicial Intern for the Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Clinic where she researched, drafted and amended legal complaints and motions, assisted with court orders, pleadings and discovery issues, and attended case management conferences and mediations. She also completed a Legal Externship with the Michigan Department of Attorney General’s Civil Rights Division where she extensively researched the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act, drafted memorandum of law and reviewed submissions. Furthermore, she volunteered as a Caseworker for Windsor Community Legal Aid and worked as a Student-Attorney for her school’s International Intellectual Property Law Clinic.
Rafia spent her 1L summer completing a rigorous placement in the Litigation Lab at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. She has been recognized for her strong oral advocacy and litigation skills by receiving Pass with Distinction for her 1L, G. Mennen Williams Moot Court Competition. She also volunteered as a moot coach for the Windsor undergraduate Lloyd Dean Moot competition. Furthermore, she was the Co-President of the Windsor Labour and Employment Law Society, VP of Finance for the Litigation Association of Windsor, and the Publications Chair for the Windsor Women and the Law Club.
Prior to starting law school, she completed two years of Civil Engineering at Ryerson University and completed her undergraduate studies in the Life Sciences at McMaster University. During undergrad, she worked as a Teaching Assistant, and as a Research Assistant at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Moreover, she participated in the TETRA case competition where she designed a novel staircase model for patients to use after receiving hip replacement surgery.
In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, listening to podcasts, aerobic exercise, and trying out new recipes.
